NEW ! Curriculum Guide: The Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program has developed a teaching tool for teachers in grades 5-8 who want to incorporate Vietnamese American history and culture into their classrooms. There are four separate lesson plans, some including several sections, and teachers are free to use one or more and to adapt them for their particular communities and classrooms. There are many different lessons, including some for creating an historical timeline, for analyzing media representation; for an introduction to the Vietnamese language and culture and for profiles of Vietnamese American leaders. These lesson plans follow the standards established by the National Council of Social Studies (NCSS) which encourage students to “develop the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world.” The curriculum guide will be downloadable from this site by April 1, 2008.
Traveling Exhibit: The Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Services (SITES) will begin a nation-wide touring schedule beginning in late 2007. "Exit Saigon, Enter Little Saigon", will be available for three month engagements at suitable venues from 2007-2010. If you want to host the Exhibit in your local area, please contact our office at 202-633-2690. Attached is a brief summary of the requirements to host the traveling exhibit. Requirements PDF
